John Taber
John Taber was born at Dartmouth, Massachusetts, on 9 October 1735, a son of Benjamin Taber and his wife Susanna. Dartmouth then took in the later towns of New Bedford, Fairhaven and Westport. He was a blacksmith.
He married three times. His intention to marry Elisabeth Bennet, daughter of William Bennet, was published on 11 July 1761. Their son Bennet was born on 23 July 1762. Elisabeth died soon after.
His intention with Almy Cook was published on 30 August 1764. Their children Robert, Jeremiah, Pardon, Rhoda and Almy were born between 1768 and 1776. On 8 December 1776 he married Hannah Tripp, and more children followed: Joseph, John, Elizabeth, Tripp and Hannah.
In 1793 a John Taber of New Bedford, blacksmith, bought from his son Bennet the share Bennet had inherited in the real estate of William Bennet, Elisabeth's father. George L. Randall's Taber genealogy of 1924 says John died at Fairhaven on 18 February 1818.
