Birte Olsdatter
Birte Olsdatter was born in 1766, the eldest child of Ole Andersen and Helje Andersdatter of Langang in Holt parish. Her parents married that same year. Her father came from Bjelland in Holt and married onto Langang. After her came her sisters Maren, baptised in December 1768, Marte in 1770 and Ingeborg in 1775, and a brother, Anders Olsen.
She was betrothed at Holt on 1 April 1790 to Aslak Knudsen, then of the farm Holte in Vestre Moland, the seventh marriage of that year. Peder Tergelsen Langang stood surety for her, off her own farm. He was probably her first cousin, a son of her mother's brother Tengel Andersen, who held Langang. She and Aslak farmed Joranstad in Holt.
She is in the church book four times as a mother, at Joranstad, between 1801 and 1806: Birte in April 1801, Trohn in March 1803, Maren in December 1804 and Ingeborg Marie in August 1806. The clerk wrote her Birte Olsd. and Berthe Olsdt. as the mood took him. Two older sons, Ole in 1796 and Knud in 1799, are named in the parish history, and Ole became a skipper. In March 1806 the church book has her husband at the burial of a child.
She died at Jorumstad on 8 October 1833, aged sixty seven, and was buried on 16 October. Her husband died four and a half months after her.
