Boykin Robbins
Boykin Millerchamp Robbins was born on 27 March 1893 in Kershaw County, South Carolina, a son of Thomas B. Robbins, called Ben, and Emily Kirby. His father had been born in North Carolina. In 1900 the family lived at Camden, the Kershaw County seat, and by 1910 they had moved north to Catawba township in York County.
He married Mary Dutton, called May, and they settled at Rock Hill in York County. Their son Boykin, named for his father, was born about 1912 and died at Rock Hill on 17 August 1916, at about four. In January 1920 Boykin, twenty-seven, and May, twenty-three, had a son Benjamin, four, and a baby daughter. Eva Mae was born in York County a year later, on 15 January 1921.
In 1930 Boykin was thirty-seven and still at Rock Hill, with five children at home: Benjamin, thirteen, Mary, twelve, Eva, nine, Smiley, seven, and Charlie, three. He was listed as married, but no wife was in the house. A woman of twenty-five, Marie Sexton, lived with them.
By 1940 he had moved to Chester Township in Chester County, the county where Eva had married Roland Ferrell in 1936, and his wife was Effie M. He died at York on 14 July 1963, aged seventy. His death was recorded with his parents' names and a wife named Ada Merritt.
