Caleb Allen
Caleb Allen was born on 31 March 1685, the youngest of the eleven children of Edward Allen and Sarah Kimball. His father had been one of the committee that settled the town of Suffield, on the Connecticut River. Edward died in November 1696, when Caleb was eleven.
Caleb was "a weaver by trade", in the words of Henry Saunderson's History of Charlestown, New-Hampshire (1876). He was "of Suffield, from 1717 to 1725, of Enfield, from 1748 to 1756, when he removed to Northfield, where he died, Sept. 23d, 1761." He was seventy-six.
On 4 April 1721, at Haverhill, he married Hannah Eaton. They had seven children. The third, Benjamin, born in 1724, became a soldier of the garrison at the frontier fort of No. 4, and one of the proprietors and first officers of the township that grew around it, Charlestown, New Hampshire. Hannah outlived Caleb by twenty-five years and died on 8 June 1786, aged eighty-eight.
