Sarah Kimball
Sarah Kimball was born at Watertown, Massachusetts, in 1635, the year after her family crossed from England. She was the ninth child of Richard Kimball and Ursula Scott of Rattlesden, Suffolk, who came over in the ship Elizabeth in 1634. Her elder brother Henry had been baptised at Rattlesden in 1615, twenty years before she was born. Her younger brothers Benjamin and Caleb were born at Ipswich, where the family moved.
On 24 November 1658 she married Edward Allen of Ipswich. He was said in family tradition to have been a soldier under Cromwell. Their first child, John, was born on 9 August 1659.
Her second child, a daughter Sarah, was born on 4 July 1661 and died the following February. The next daughter, born in 1664, was named Sarah again. Edward was born in 1662, Elizabeth in 1666, William in 1668, Benjamin in 1673, David in 1676 and Abigail in 1678. Samuel followed, and the youngest, Caleb, was born on 31 March 1685, when she was about fifty.
Her father died at Ipswich in June 1675, aged more than eighty, and her mother the next March. Her husband became one of the committee that settled the new town of Suffield, on the Connecticut River.
Sarah died on 12 June 1690, by the Kimball family history of 1897. Edward died in 1696.
