Catherine was born in Ireland about 1728. The Huey family history calls her a daughter of Sir Richard Persee; that is a family tradition, and no record of it is known. Her first husband was named Adams, and she had two Adams children, Abraham and Margaret, before she married Hercules Huey.
They came to the Waxhaws from County Antrim after 1766 and settled on Cane Creek. In September 1775 Hercules made his will, named her his sole executor, and left her an equal share with the six children for as long as she did not remarry. He died that month. She was left with a plantation, two Adams stepchildren grown or nearly so, and a houseful of Hueys, the youngest a boy of nine named Hercules, at the start of a war that would be fought across the Waxhaws.
She never remarried. She died on 16 November 1808 at eighty, and was buried beside her husband in the Old Waxhaw churchyard. Her son Hercules put up one stone for the two of them.
