Celia Ann Pippin
Celia Ann Pippin was born on 31 August 1898 at Whitewright, in Fannin County, Texas. She was the third of nine known children of Richard Murray Pippin, a Tennessean born at Cookeville in 1870, and Margarett Axah Sams. Her brothers and sisters were Hershal Lewis, Henry Arthur, Jessie Robert, William Clarence, Grady Lee, Earl Dee, Arvel Andrew and Lola Ruby. Her father's mother was named Celia too, Celia Emeline Laycock.
The Pippins moved north to Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, and Celia married Simon Eppley "Sim" Richardson, a First World War veteran. They lived at Henryetta. Their children were Harry Kenneth, born in 1920; Harold Murray, born in 1924 and given her father's middle name; and Johnnie Rhea, called Penne, born in 1927.
In 1945 Celia lost her mother and, in October, her husband, a month after her son Harry's wedding. On 22 November 1947 she married Walter Hunter in Sebastian County, Arkansas, just across the state line. Her father died the same year.
Walter Hunter died on 9 November 1955. Celia died at Henryetta three and a half weeks later, on 3 December 1955, at fifty-seven. She is buried in New Sonora Cemetery in Okmulgee County, near her parents, under a gray granite stone that reads "Celia Ann Hunter" and carries her photograph on a porcelain oval.
