Richard Murray Pippin
Richard Murray Pippin was born on 3 September 1870 at Cookeville, in Putnam County, Tennessee. His parents were Richard Freelon Pippin (1837 to 1913) and Celia Emeline Laycock (1838 to 1881). He was one of at least eight children of that marriage, and after his mother's death his father had two more sons by a second wife.
He went west to Texas and married Margarett Axah Sams, the daughter of Joe Cephas Sams and Mary Elizabeth Ponder. Their children were born over twenty-six years: Hershal Lewis in 1894, Henry Arthur in 1896, Celia Ann in 1898 at Whitewright in Fannin County, Jessie Robert in 1903, William Clarence in 1905, Grady Lee in 1908, Earl Dee in 1912, Arvel Andrew in 1915 and Lola Ruby in 1920. Celia carried the name of his mother.
The family moved on to Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. Margarett died in 1945, and Richard died at Henryetta in 1947. They share a stone in New Sonora Cemetery, which reads "Pippin, R. M., 1870-1947, Margarett A., 1875-1945, At Rest."
