Charles Glasscock married Polly Arnett in Monongalia County on 27 August 1814, and their son Arnett was born there on 12 September 1831.
He was buying land in Monongalia County by 1819. The county deed books hold a conveyance from Thomas and Francis Collins to Charles Glasscock, and the court papers of 1807 to 1821 carry him repeatedly as a party.
He was dead by 1840. In that year the county court appointed his widow guardian of five infant children, which is what a court does for a fatherless family, and a later chancery record calls her plainly the widow of the said Charles Glasscock deceased. The 1850 census, finding Polly keeping house alone, shows only that he was dead by June 1850. The guardianship bond puts it a decade earlier.
His land was divided among his heirs by decree. The Monongalia court records of 1847 to 1873 hold the partition: a plat, the dower interest of the widow set off, and the shares allotted to the children by name, Arnett among them.
Glasscock is an old English surname in Virginia, in the colony since the sixteen hundreds, and this family was in the Monongalia country by 1814 at the latest, probably by 1807.
