Charles Slovik
Charles Slovik was born in Warsaw on 15 March 1889, in the Russian part of partitioned Poland, the son of Yetzchok Meyer and Ryfka Igelnik. He came to America in 1905, at sixteen, and worked as a tailor.
He married Annie Shinbrot on 22 June 1912 at 152 Manhattan Avenue in Brooklyn, both of them giving their birthplace as Russian Poland. Rev. Dr. L. Joachim of the synagogue at 726 Gates Avenue performed it, and John Weisblatt and Samuel Cohen signed as witnesses. The certificate names his parents as Yetzchok Meyer and Ryfka Igelnik.
He registered for the draft in the first war and again in the second. By 1920 the Brooklyn household held his own young family and Annie's father as well. Three children came: Sidney in 1915, Arthur in 1917 and Ruth in 1925. In 1940 the five of them were at Assembly District 16, in a house they had been in since at least 1935.
He died on 30 January 1956, at sixty six. Where he lies is not known.
