Charlotte Himes was born in New York about 1896. Her maiden name has not been found. She married Robert Harrison Himes, a Brooklyn-born man four years her senior, and they made their home in Lynbrook, in Nassau County on Long Island.

In 1940 the census found the family renting a house at 11 Second Street in Lynbrook, where they had lived since at least 1935. Charlotte was 44. Her children at home were Marian, 19, Robert, 18, Vivian, 17, Charlotte, 13, and Ralph, 11. By 1947 the family lived on Taft Avenue, and that June her son Robert married Grace Pauly at the Lynbrook Baptist Church. In April 1950 she and Robert were still in Lynbrook, with their married daughter Vivian L. Holmes living with them. The census that year gave her name as Charlotte L. Himes.

When her son Robert Harding Himes died in Florida in 2009, his death notice in Newsday named his parents as Robert and Charlotte Himes.
