Chauncey Waters
Chauncey Waters was born in Connecticut about 1822 to 1825. The censuses never agree on his age: 25 in 1850, 38 in 1860 and 51 in 1880. He lived his life in Hartford.
On 3 May 1853 he married Jane M. Simmons at Hartford. Their son Henry B. Waters was born there on 7 December 1853. In 1860 the family of three was living in the Third District of Hartford. Later children included Lucy Ann, Jane M. or Jennie, and William H. Waters. In 1880 Chauncey was still at Hartford with his wife Jane and their children William and Jennie. He died suddenly at Hartford on 10 September 1897, aged 75 or 76, at his home at 7 Hendricsson Avenue. Because no doctor had been attending him, the death was reported to the medical examiner, H. S. Fuller, who viewed the body and put the cause down to Bright's disease, a disease of the kidneys. His report reads: "He was an old man very much crippled with rheumatism, and had some months previously been in the hospital suffering from urinary troubles. He was very feeble but did not have a physician, and was under no special treatment at the time of his death." Fuller found no reason for an inquest and gave the body to his widow for burial.
His parents are not known; an older Chauncey Waters who died in 1847 near Manchester and East Hartford is a possible relation, unproved.
