Christina Zaiser
Christina Zaiser was born on 26 November 1827 at Neu Elft in the Akkerman district of Bessarabia, a daughter of Johann Michael Zaiser and Magdalena Reichert, who had both been born at Schwieberdingen near Ludwigsburg in Wurttemberg and had come to the new Black Sea colonies as young people. Her parents married at Alt Arzis in January 1817, and she was the sixth of their eleven children. On 9 November 1844, at seventeen, she married August Radke, nineteen, the son of Daniel Radke of Neu Elft. The parish entry gives her father as Michael Zaiser. She bore fifteen children at Neu Elft and buried ten of them, infants and a pair of stillborn twins; Katharina, Johann, Samuel, Maria and Louisa lived.
In 1879, at 51, she crossed the Atlantic with August and five of the children on the General Werder, landing at New York on 7 July, and went on to the Milberger settlement in Russell County, Kansas, where her son Samuel had taken land the year before. Her husband died there in 1894. In June 1900 the census found her, a widow of 72 and mother of fifteen children with five living, in the household of her son Samuel in Lincoln Township. She died after that, on a date not found, and is buried at Milberger, where August's stone carries her name.
