Johann Michael Zaiser was born on 10 January 1794 at Schwieberdingen, a village north west of Stuttgart in the Duchy of Wurttemberg, a son of Johann Conrad Zaiser and his wife Salome, and was baptized in the village church on 10 January 1794. He went east with the Wurttemberg emigration to the Black Sea after the Napoleonic wars. His father, Johann Conrad Zaiser, died at Alt Elft in Bessarabia on 20 March 1820, aged 59. On 11 January 1817 he married Magdalena Reichert, a girl from his own village, at Alt Arzis in the Akkerman district, and they settled first at Alt Elft, where their first children were born, and then at Neu Elft, the daughter colony, where Christina was born in 1827. Eleven children are recorded: Magdalena, Rosina Katherine, Katharina, who died in infancy, Johann Friedrich, a second Katharina, Christina, August, Andreas, Michael, Jacob and Gottlieb. The colony's baptism books name him and Magdalena as the parents of Johann Friedrich, born at Alt Elft on 24 February 1821, Katharina on 24 August 1824, Christina in November 1827, Gottlieb on 16 October 1828, who died at four in November 1832, and August, born at Neu Elft on 8 February 1831. Johann Friedrich, entered as Johann, married Rosina Mantei in November 1840 and died at Neu Elft in September 1864, aged 43. Michael died at Neu Elft on 5 November 1856, aged 62, his birthplace entered simply as Germany. His daughter Christina took his grandson Samuel Radke's name to Kansas. His birth and marriage dates come from his descendants' compilation of the colony records; his death, his father's death and his children's baptisms are in the parish books.
