Clayborn Rhodes Hooper
Clayborn Rhodes Hooper was born on 25 November 1813 in Harrison County, Kentucky. His family moved to Illinois, and on 2 February 1834 at Shelbyville, in Shelby County, he married Mary Ann Storey, a Kentucky girl of fourteen or fifteen. Their children were born in Illinois through the 1840s: Susana, Eli Delworth in 1837, Sidney Jane, Mary Jane, Peter, Grace A., Martha Elizabeth, and then more in Arkansas, Eliza Emmaline, Josephine, Nancy Caroline and Caldonia.
In 1850 he took the whole family, his old father James included, to Scott County, Arkansas. The census of Boone Township on 21 November 1850 lists him as Claiton Hooper, 37, farmer, born in Kentucky, with his father at the head of the house and his own eight children around him, the youngest, Emeline, born in Arkansas that year. He settled finally at Magazine in Logan County, on the north side of Mount Magazine.
He died there on 29 December 1873, aged 60, and was buried in the Ellington Cemetery at Magazine under a tall marble stone carved with an open Bible. Mary Ann outlived him by thirty years.
