Corrine J. Ryan
Corrine J. Ryan was born on 16 December 1942 at Freeport, the county seat of Stephenson County in northern Illinois. She was the daughter of George Clifford Ryan and Joyce Virginia Kuehl, both Freeport-born. She had one brother, Jim.
On 15 October 1966, at twenty-three, she married Ronald Pannkuk at Forreston, a farm town just over the Ogle County line. Ronald was the son of Minert Pannkuk and Sadie Ruter, and he had grown up on a farm in the Forreston and Shannon country and graduated from Shannon High School in 1960. Four months after the wedding, on 24 February 1967, her father died at Freeport at the age of forty-six.
Corrine and Ronald made their home at Shannon, a village in Carroll County about fifteen miles west of Freeport. Ronald farmed, worked for Cherry Brothers and for Green Giant, the vegetable canner, and drove a truck delivering liquid propane gas for Carroll Service. Corrine was a homemaker. They raised a son, Kevin, and three daughters: Karen, Suellen and Linda. The family belonged to North Grove Evangelical Church in the countryside near Forreston.
Her obituary remembered what she liked to do with her hands: crafts, cross stitch, sewing and gardening. She also loved time with her grandchildren and visiting with friends. One grandson, Justin Richards, died before her.
Ronald died on 15 January 2013. Corrine died twenty-one months later, on 12 October 2014, at Serenity Home in Oregon, Illinois, aged seventy-one. Her funeral was held at North Grove Evangelical Church, with Rev. Tim Hotchkiss officiating. She was buried beside Ronald at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. Her son, her three daughters, her brother Jim and four grandchildren survived her.
