Darcy Hale, whose name was also written Hales, was a gentleman of the city of Dublin. On 4 February 1733/4 he married Sarah Clopton at St Michan's church. The register reads "Darcy Hales gent Sarah Clopton spr." The clerk entered it under 1733, because the year then began on 25 March. By modern reckoning the wedding was in February 1734. "Gent" marks him as a gentleman, and "spr." marks the bride as a spinster, never before married.

Sarah was the daughter and heir of Anthony Clopton, Esquire. Their only son, John, was born on 18 September 1737, three and a half years after the wedding. John later settled at Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire and died there in 1799. The Latin monument at Lewisham to Thomas Myers, the husband of Darcy's granddaughter Anna Maria, records the descent.

His own parents are not proven. His great-grandson Frederic W. H. Myers wrote in 1893 that Anna Maria's great-grandfather was "the Rev. Dr. John Hale, 'Rector, Chancellor, and Treasurer of Dromore.'" Dromore was a cathedral diocese in County Down. A John Hales, M.A., Prebendary of Dromaragh, was collated Treasurer of Dromore on 18 October 1681, and his successor was appointed in 1708. The treasurer was one of the senior clergy of the cathedral chapter. Anna Maria had four great-grandfathers, and the one who shared her surname was most likely Darcy's father. That would make Darcy the son of a Dromore clergyman, born late in his father's life. No record found names the relationship.

Twenty years after his marriage he appears to have fallen on hard times. The Dublin city assembly kept lists of freemen "praying the city's favour" and the sums it granted them. A freeman was a citizen with the right to trade and vote in the city. Darcy Hales is on the list in 1756, and in 1757 and 1758 he was granted £2. His name is otherwise unrecorded in Dublin in those years, so this is very probably the same man.

Darcy Hale was buried in St Catherine's parish, Dublin, on 1 October 1766.
