David K. Mullins

David K. Mullins, written D. K. Mullins in the county registers, was born in Russell County, Virginia, about 1843 or 1844, the son of David and Ruth Mullins. On 16 August 1870, at twenty-six, he married Nancy Reed in Wise County. She was twenty-one, also born in Russell County, the daughter of George and Nancy Reed.

In June 1880 the young family was living in Walker district of Wise County, in the household of Nancy's father, an old man of eighty-one written G. D. Reed. The census taker wrote David as D. R. Mullins, 37, son-in-law, both of his parents born in North Carolina. With him were Nancy J., 31, and their children Alexander, 8, George M., 6, Loranza D., 4, and Amy, a baby of nine months. A Reed of fifty, S. P., lived in the same house.

That baby was Amey, who married James Anderson Stanley in Dickenson County in January 1897. The clerk entered her parents as D. K. and Nancy Mullins.
