Amey Mullins
Amey Mullins was born in what became Dickenson County, Virginia. Her stone gives 18 May 1880; the 1900 census gives September 1879, and her marriage in January 1897 gives her age as seventeen. The marriage register names her parents as D. K. and Nancy Mullins. In June 1880 the census taker found her as Amy, nine months old, in Walker district of Wise County, in the house of her mother's father, G. D. Reed, with her parents David K. and Nancy Mullins and three older brothers, Alexander, George M. and Loranza D.
She married James Anderson Stanley on 17 January 1897, when he was eighteen. Their daughter Rosa Belle was born late in 1896. In June 1900 Amey was 21, living in Clintwood town with her husband and two daughters, Rosabell and Mary Jane. Other children followed, among them Lou Emma, Callie, Bethana, Clonas, Hatcher and Cowan.
Her eldest daughter Rosa died of blood poisoning in October 1924, leaving three small children. The death certificate gave Rosa's mother's maiden name as "Amey Dutter", though every other record of Amey calls her a Mullins.
Amey outlived her husband by less than five months. Anderson died in February 1958 and she died on 26 June 1958. Her stone in the Ramey Flats Cemetery near Clintwood reads "Mother, Amey Stanley, May 18, 1880, June 26, 1958."
