Dea. William Fiske
William Fiske was baptized at Wenham, Massachusetts, on 4 June 1643, the eldest son of William Fiske, the town's first clerk, and Bridget Muskett. His father died suddenly in 1654, when he was eleven. The court ordered his mother to pay him ten pounds when he came of age, twice the share of his brothers.
On 15 January 1662 he married Sarah Kilham at Wenham. She was the daughter of Austin Kilham, who had come from the parish of Kilham in Yorkshire. They had fourteen children, and ten of them grew up and had families of their own. Seven of those were sons.
He was a weaver by trade. He held many town offices. He was elected a deacon of the Wenham church in 1679, and was also called Lieutenant. He represented Wenham in the General Court in 1701, 1704, 1711, 1713 and 1714, and was moderator of the town meeting in 1702, 1703, 1712, 1713 and 1714.
On 18 January 1696 he bought from John Newman of Wenham, a physician, for one hundred pounds, sixty acres of upland and swamp next to his own land and ten acres of meadow known as Mr. Newman's ten-acre lot. One of the bounds was a white oak on a point of upland, and a parcel of the meadow was called Kemp's meadow. The deed names the Moultons, James and Samuel, among the neighbors. In 1721 Newman's son released seventy acres more to him.
He died in February 1728, "universally esteemed and lamented." His son Ebenezer was executor of his will. His wife Sarah outlived him by nine years.
