Deacon Nathaniel Bryant

Nathaniel Bryant was the youngest recorded son of Deacon Samuel Bryant and Joanna, and a great-grandson of the immigrant Stephen Bryant. He was born at Plympton about 1712. No entry gives the date; it is reckoned from his age at death. He became a deacon like his father. His elder brother was also Deacon Samuel Bryant, and both were long dead when Nathaniel died. Lewis Bradford, town clerk of Plympton from 1812 to 1851, annotated his death entry in the town book to identify him as son of Deacon Samuel and brother of Deacon Samuel, which was the only way to say which man it meant.

He married Zeruiah Curtis of Pembroke. She died on 21 April 1790 aged eighty three years and three months, which puts her birth in January 1707 and makes her about five years older than her husband. He outlived her by three and a half years and died at Plympton on 6 December 1793 in his eighty second year.

Two of his sons are in the records. Nathaniel married a Joanna, and they buried a child called Royal on 3 January 1773. Benjamin became a deacon in his turn. His second wife Sarah was a daughter of James Harlow, and she died on 13 November 1808.
