Dennis William Tucker
Dennis William Tucker was born in 1890 at Farmerville, the seat of Union Parish, Louisiana, a few miles below the Arkansas line. Memorials compiled by relatives give his parents as William Riley Tucker, a Union Parish farmer born in 1861, and Maggie McCoy, and list four brothers and a sister, Marvin Allen, Mason Mountain, Benjamin Franklin and Velma.
In 1914 he was living at Cecil, Louisiana. On the afternoon of Wednesday 30 December 1914 he married Allie Eugenia Russell, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Russell of Huttig, on the Arkansas side of the line, with the Rev. W. R. M. Dollar officiating. They settled in Union County, Arkansas. Their children were Loice William, born in 1919, Alta Marie, born at Strong on 7 June 1921, Relda Mae, born in 1924, and Ray and Dawne.
A snapshot of Dennis in his later years shows a broad, smiling man in round glasses, his shirt sleeves rolled and his tie loose over his suspenders, standing outdoors in front of bare trees and a frame house.
He died in Union County in 1948, about 58 years old. He was buried in Union Cemetery under a plain marble block that reads only "DENNIS W. TUCKER 1890 1948". His widow married Bernard Johnston and lived another thirty years.
