Alta Marie Tucker
Alta Marie Tucker was born on 7 June 1921 at Strong, a small town in the east of Union County, Arkansas. She went by Marie all her life. Her parents were Dennis Tucker and Allie Eugenia Russell. Her father had been born at Farmerville, just over the state line in Union Parish, Louisiana, and her mother at Huttig, on the Arkansas side. She grew up with two brothers, Loice William, born in 1919, and Ray, and two sisters, Relda Mae, born in 1924, and Dawne.
She married James Ivan Marrable of El Dorado, who was nine months younger. Their daughter Jeannie Marie was born at El Dorado on 15 January 1944, and a son, Jimmy R., in about 1947. In April 1950 she was 28, keeping house in El Dorado while James worked as a gas blender at an oil refinery.
Her father died in 1948. Her mother married again and became Mrs. Bernard Johnston, and when she died in January 1978 her obituary listed among her daughters "Mrs. Marie Marrable of El Dorado". By then Marie and James lived at 1109 Marrable Hill, on the road south of El Dorado that carries his family's name.
James died in May 1999. Marie later moved to Ruston, Louisiana, where her daughter and son were both living, and she died there on 19 February 2008, aged 86. Her obituary began: "Our beloved Mother, Marie Marrable, went to be with her Lord on Feb. 19, 2008, in Ruston, La." It named her daughter Jeannie Parnell and her husband Bill, her son Jimmy Marrable and his wife Barbara, her sister Relda Langley of Texas, and her grandchildren, Todd Owens and Mark Owens among them.
She was brought home to El Dorado. The graveside service was held at two o'clock on Saturday 23 February 2008 at the Bethel Cemetery on U.S. 167 South, with the Rev. Charles Ainsworth officiating, under Young's Funeral Directors. The family asked for memorials to the Marrable Hill Baptist Church. Her name had been carved beside her husband's years before, "MARIE TUCKER, JUNE 7, 1921", under a heart reading "MOTHER".
