Dr. John McLurg
Dr. John McLurg was born on 25 July 1857 at London, Middlesex County, Ontario. His parents were John McLurg, a native of Belfast, Ireland, and Isabella Marshall. He was one of at least six children. His brothers William and Henry stayed in Middlesex County.
John became a physician. On 26 August 1884, in East Williams Township, he married Charlotte I. Stewart, whose parents had both been born in Scotland. In 1888 the couple crossed into Michigan and settled at Bay City, at the mouth of the Saginaw River.
They had no children of their own. In October 1895 John's brother William had twins in Lobo Township, and four months later William's wife Janet died. The boy, Harold, came to John and Charlotte in Bay City in 1897. In the 1900 census John was a physician of forty eight in the ninth ward, owning his house free of mortgage, with Charlotte and "Harold S.", entered as adopted son. Harold grew up in Bay City and named John and Charlotte as his parents when he married in 1921.
Dr. John McLurg died in Bay City on 28 July 1923, three days after his sixty sixth birthday. His Michigan death certificate names his parents as John McLurg and Isabella Marshall. He was buried at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Bay City. Charlotte lived on in Bay City for almost four decades and died there on 17 July 1962, two weeks before her ninety ninth birthday by her memorial. She was buried beside him, and Harold was buried in the same cemetery in 1969.
