Edmund Bement
Edmund Bement was born at Enfield on 9 November 1713. Enfield was then governed as part of Massachusetts and passed to Connecticut in 1749. The town clerk wrote: "Edman bement the son of Edman bement and prissilah his wife was borne the ninth day of november 1713." The Cowles genealogy of 1929 prints the day as 5 November. He was the youngest of five children of Edmund Bement and Priscilla Warner, after Martha, Jonathan, Prudence and Dennis.
His mother died while he was a small child. By November 1719 his father had married Margery Pasko. His father died about 1745.
He married a woman named Abigail. The marriage is not in the Enfield records. Three of their children are entered there: Deodat, born 22 May 1751; Content, born 29 May 1753; and Lucrecia, born 29 September 1755. Content's entry reads: "Content Bement Daughter of Edmund and abigail Bement was born may 29 1753." In 1748 an Edmond Bement sold ninety six acres "with dwelling house and barn" on the Windsor line to William Commings of Mansfield.
He is probably the Edmund who fathered Content. The Enfield book has two other Edmunds, born in 1739 and 1748/9, who were both children in 1751, and his father was dead by then. The Cowles genealogy names Content's father as the Edmund born in 1713. His death has not been found.
