Edward Dodge Sen.
Edward Dodge was a son of Richard Dodge, who came out of East Coker in Somerset and settled at Salem and Beverly. He farmed at Beverly and held land in Wenham, Manchester and Ipswich as well.
He did not wait for a will to divide it. On 17 February 1714/5 he made a deed of gift to his two sons Edward and Mark, giving them for love and affection the dwelling house, the wash house down by the well, the barn, the cider house with its mill and press, the outhousing, and two thirds of his upland at Beverly, with the other third reserved to their brother Jonathan. The meadow, the ground by Beaver Pond, the salt marsh at Chebacco and his commonage were divided in the same instrument. He kept a life interest and the deed was not recorded until 1737.
His children included Ruth, born 15 August 1685, who married Israel Balch; Edward, born 1687; Mark; Jonathan, who married Esther Friend of Wenham in 1701/2; and daughters Ellinor and Hannah, who were each to have forty pounds from their brothers within four years of his death.
