Edward Henrick
Edward Henrick was born in Ireland about 1827. He was living in Oswego, New York, by 1850, and spent the rest of his life in the city's First Ward. His name is also written Hendrick and Hendricks in the censuses.
He and his wife Bridget, also Irish-born, raised at least three children in Oswego: John, born in 1854, Elizabeth, called Libbie, born about 1856, and Julia, born in December 1858. In 1880 all three were still at home. John was twenty-seven, Libbie twenty-four, and Julia twenty-two and working as a clerk. That year Edward was an alderman for the First Ward, one of the two men the ward sent to the city's Common Council.
Bridget died on 24 November 1881. About four years later Julia married Frederick J. Ratigan, a son of the First Ward meat dealer and former alderman Luke Ratigan. Edward died on 20 March 1888, aged fifty-nine, and was buried beside Bridget in Saint Paul's Cemetery, Section M. His son John became one of the best known contractors in that part of the state, building sewers and pavements and, with the Bradley Contracting Company, locks and dams on the Barge Canal.
