Edward James Long
Edward James Long was born at Bangor, Maine, about 1873, the son of John Long, an Irish immigrant, and Joanna Augley. His brothers and sister were born there too: Jeremiah in 1867, Thomas in 1869, John in 1871 and Margaret in 1874.
He came to Massachusetts, and on 20 January 1897, aged 23, he married Lida Swazey Patten at Watertown. She was from Bucksport, Maine, down the Penobscot River from Bangor, the daughter of Mighill P. Patten and Julia Bowden. The couple made their home in Watertown. Their children were John Philip, Jeremiah Wilmon, born 6 September 1905, and Julia Joanna, who carried her two grandmothers' names.
His eldest brother Jeremiah, a candy maker, died at Peabody in 1904 and was buried at Bangor. Edward's second son, born the next year, was named Jeremiah. The family was at Watertown in the censuses of 1910 and 1920.
Edward died in 1927 and is buried in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
