Edward Lee Bennett
Edward Lee Bennett was born on December 12, 1863 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, son of John Francis Bennett and Sarah Jane Criswell. The family went west to Norton County, Kansas, and on 9 November 1887, at Norton, he married Lena E. Snow, a daughter of the county treasurer Francis Marion Snow. They lived in a house on the hill at Norton. Their sons Glenn Edward and Chester Arthur were born in 1893 and 1895.
Their daughter Lena Margaret was born on 16 June 1901, and eight days later Lena died. In 1904 he married Bertha Wyatt, born in Kansas in 1889, a daughter of Thomas Wyatt and Malinda Hefley. The 1910 census finds him in Norton Ward 1 with Bertha, Lena's three children and two of Bertha's. Bertha bore him six children in all, the last, John Franklin, born and dead in 1922. Their son Charles Robert died in 1936 at twenty three.
Edward died on July 2, 1936 and is buried in Norton Cemetery under a flat granite stone that reads "EDWARD LEE BENNETT / 1863 - 1936". Bertha outlived him by twenty six years and is buried in the same cemetery.
