Lena Margaret Bennett
Lena Margaret Bennett was born at Norton, Kansas, on 16 June 1901, a daughter of Edward Lee Bennett and Lena E. Snow. Her mother died on 24 June, eight days later, aged thirty-one, and the baby was given her name. She grew up in Norton in her father's house, with a stepmother and two half-siblings born in 1907 and 1908. The census of 1910 found her there at eight.
She married Milton Jasper Bryant, a Nebraska-born salesman who had grown up in Norton County. Their children were born across four states in six years: Milton Jr. in Louisiana about 1921, Eleanor in Washington in December 1921, Joyce in Kansas about 1925 and Barbara in Texas about 1927.
In 1930 the family was living in Denver, where Milton sold used cars, and their youngest, Donna Jean, was born there about 1932. They were still in Denver in 1935. Her son Milton Jr. died there in 1938, at seventeen. By 1940 the family had moved to Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, where he had been born. She was thirty-eight and keeping house for Milton and their four daughters.
In 1950 she and Milton were living in Harris County, Texas, near their daughter Eleanor, and she was working as a marker in a laundry. Milton died at DeRidder, Louisiana, in 1959. She outlived him by twenty years and died in Houston in 1979.
