Elbina Narlett was born about 1879 in the Choctaw Nation, a full-blood Choctaw. Her father was Adam Narlett, who lived in Nashoba County and later at Smithville. Her mother had died by 1899; her name was left blank on the enrollment card. The family called her Bina or Biney, and census takers and clerks wrote her name a half dozen ways: Bainie, Albiny, Albanie, Elbinna, Viney.
By 1896 she was married to Josiah Thomas, for she is on the Choctaw roll of that year as Bainie Thomas, in Cedar County. She was about seventeen. Their first son, Lixan, was born on 5 June 1897. Impson followed on 20 June 1899, and on 28 October 1899 she swore before the notary R. L. Carter at Doaksville that he had been born to her and was living. She signed her own name, Elbinna Thomas. A third son, born 20 August 1901 and enrolled as Joe, was really named Billy, and he died at about a year old.
The Dawes Commission enrolled her as a Choctaw by blood, full, aged 20, roll number 3197, with Josiah and the boys. The Secretary of the Interior approved the family on 12 December 1902.
In January 1920 she was 40, at home in Pushmataha County with Josiah and eight children, the youngest, Rismon, four months old. More children came after: Abraham about 1919 or 1922 and Edna on 9 June 1923. The family counts sixteen children in all. When and where she died is not known.
