Eliza Lowe
Eliza Lowe was born in New York on 12 February 1841, the daughter of William Lowe and Margaret Beggs, both born in Ireland. Her parents' names and birthplaces come from her death certificate, given by her husband of forty two years.
She married Lucien Harbaugh in Ohio County, Indiana, where the licence was taken out on 25 January 1871. He was a tinner and a Civil War volunteer of 1861, born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Their daughter Mary Lorena was born at Manchester, in Dearborn County next door, on 1 December 1872, and she was the only child. The 1880 census of Manchester gives Eliza as forty and born in New York. She is still at Manchester with Lucien in 1910, written Liza.
In July 1913 she fell ill with acute enteritis, an inflammation of the bowel, and Dr. W. F. Duncan of Manchester attended her for three weeks. She died at home in Manchester Township at eleven at night on 3 August 1913, aged seventy two, and was buried in the Manchester Cemetery two days later. J. H. Stier of Aurora was the undertaker. Lucian signed as informant. A year later, at seventy five, he married again in Cincinnati.
Her daughter gave her mother's name as Eliza Rose on a marriage licence at Indianapolis in 1892. Her own licence of 1871 says Lowe, and so does her father's name on the certificate, so Lowe was the family name.
