Mary Lorena Harbaugh

Lorena Harbaugh was born at Manchester, a river town in Dearborn County, Indiana, on 1 December 1872. Her parents, Lucien Harbaugh and Eliza Lowe, had taken out a marriage licence in neighbouring Ohio County on 25 January 1871. Her father was a tinner, born in Ohio to Ohio born parents, and her mother was born in New York. She was the only child in her parents' house when the census called in 1880. She is entered there as Mary L., the only record that uses the name Mary.

On 18 October 1892 she married Henry Misner at Indianapolis, in Marion County. The clerk entered her as Irena Harbaugh, aged twenty two, wrote her father's name by ear as L. Hasbergh, and gave her mother as Eliza Rose. By the birth date on her death record she was nineteen. Henry was thirty two, a son of John Misner and Lena Bodine.

Their daughter Emma Jane was born at Cincinnati on 14 October 1896, and she is in the 1900 census of Cincinnati as Lorena Meisner with her three year old daughter. She is named as the mother of Emma Jane Misner on Emma's 1947 Cincinnati death record. Emma was widowed at twenty two, when her husband Harry Schernbeck, a machinist, died in November 1918, and she married Harry Williamson in 1919. Emma's daughter Lorene, born in 1914, was named for her.

Her father was still at Manchester with her mother in 1910. By August 1914 he gave himself as a widower on a licence at Cincinnati.

She died a widow at 2342 Victor Street, Cincinnati, on 18 October 1944, aged seventy one, and was buried at Walnut Hills three days later. Her death record names one parent, Lucien Harbaugh, born in Ohio.

Harbaugh is a German name, from Herrbach, carried into Pennsylvania and over the mountains into eastern Ohio in the eighteenth century.
