Eliza Mullins
Eliza Mullins was born about 1827 in Virginia, by the census of 1850. She was a Mullins before she married one: her daughter Sallie's death certificate gives Sallie's mother's maiden name as Mullins. Family accounts call her Eliza Louise.
By 1848 she was married to Marshall Mullins, a Kentuckian a few years older. In 1850 the census taker found them in Russell County, Virginia: Marshal, 24, Eliza, 23, and their daughters Nancy, 2, and Sally, 1.
Sally was married in Wise County on 29 September 1868 to Harvey Kelly of Pike County, Kentucky. The clerk entered her parents only by their initials, M. and E. Mullins. She died near Clintwood in 1927, the mother of thirteen.
In February 1904 a Richmond paper wrote of an old Marshall Mullins of the Freeling neighborhood, eighty-three, who had "been a widower only a few months, his wife, whose age was near his own, having died last summer." If that is her husband, as seems very likely, Eliza died in the summer of 1903, in her middle seventies.
