Elizabeth Butcher
Elizabeth Butcher was born in Virginia about 1827. On 12 December 1846, in Johnson County, Kentucky, on the Big Sandy, she married Wiley Spears; the clerk wrote her name Bucher. In 1850 she was 23 and living in Johnson County with her husband Wiley M. Spears, 24, and their daughters Francis J., 2, and Arta, 1.
The Kentucky birth registers of the 1850s record two more of her children, Samuel L. and Martin Spears, with their parents Wiley M. Spears and Elizabeth Butcher. Her daughter Frances Jane married Samuel L. Baker in Johnson County in 1866 and died in Dickenson County, Virginia, in 1891; the death record names her parents as Wily and his wife. Wiley died before June 1866. At the June term of the Johnson Circuit Court that year, in a suit by John Richmond against Wiley's heirs, the court found that Sampson Porter, Elisabeth Porter, Jane Spears and Elijah Spears were living outside Kentucky. The Elisabeth Porter named beside Sampson Porter was very probably Elizabeth, married again. When she died is not known.
