Elizabeth Chamberlin
Elizabeth Chamberlin was born on 27 June 1742. She married Stephen Hallock at Richmond, in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, about 1761. The Hallock family history of 1906 records only that he "married a Chamberlin in Richmond, Mass." American Ancestry, in 1887, put it as "a Miss Chamberlain, the Chamberlains were Vt. Quakers." Her given name and her birth come from the family record in the Hallock Bible: "Stephen Hallock, b. Oct. 31, 1736, d. Oct. 31, 1802. Elizabeth, his wife, b. June 27, 1742."
The same record lists twelve children born over twenty five years. Stephen came first, about 1762 or 1763. Then came Elizabeth on 18 January 1764, Content C. on 6 January 1766, Sally on 17 April 1768, Joseph on 5 August 1770 and John on 20 October 1772. Benjamin followed on 17 December 1774, Polly on 25 March 1777, Lucy on 7 July 1779, Clarinda on 12 August 1781, Isaac on 12 May 1784 and Amos on 5 April 1787. She was forty four at the last birth. Her son Content took her surname as his middle name, and the family history spells him out in full as Content Chamberlin.
By 1790 the family had moved to Williston, in Chittenden County, Vermont. In 1792 her husband bought a place at Richmond, Vermont, on the Onion River, now the Winooski. All six of the sons the family history names settled there and raised families.
The Bible typescript sets the date 18 March 1802 beside her entry. It is probably her death, seven months before her husband's on 31 October 1802. Her daughter Sally, the wife of a Crane, died the same year.
