Content C. Hallock
Content Chamberlin Hallock was a son of Stephen Hallock and his wife, a Chamberlin of Richmond, in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. His middle name was his mother's surname. The Hallock family history of 1906 lists Stephen's six sons as "Stephen Jr., Content Chamberlin, Joseph, John, Isaac, Amos, all of whom settled and had families in Richmond, Vt." His birth is not recorded. His place among the sons puts it about 1765 to 1775.
His father bought a place at Richmond, Vermont, in 1792, on the Onion River, now the Winooski, between Mount Mansfield and Camel's Hump. Content C. Hallock runs through the Chittenden County land records from 1800 to 1806, selling land at Richmond with his brother Joseph and a Sophrona Hallock signing beside him, and acknowledging deeds as the town's collector of taxes. In December 1806 the town meeting put him on the committee that redrew the school districts. Burlington, where his daughter Ann was born on Christmas Day 1805, is ten miles down the Winooski.
Ann's son named him in one sentence of a memoir: "In Dec. 1825 he married Ann Hallock, daughter of Content C."
He moved on to northern New York. The Hallock history says that "Content C. died in Lewis county, N. Y., had sons Chamberlin, Rufus, and George." Ann married Harvey Noulton there and died at Turin in Lewis County in 1874. A Content C. Hallock is assessed for land in Lewis County from 1834 to 1859. His death date is not known.
