Elizabeth Green
Elizabeth Green was born on 10 June 1747, a daughter of Richard Green of Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and his wife Elizabeth. Her sisters were Mary, who married a Holcomb, and Sarah, who married a Gano.
About 1766 she married Henry Waterhouse of neighbouring Kingwood Township. Her father and Henry's father, Joshua Waterhouse, had served together as witness and appraiser on Kingwood estates in 1754 and 1760.
She had six children who grew up: Charles in 1767, John in 1772, Joshua, Richard Green in 1775, Margaret in 1778 and Elizabeth in 1782. Richard Green Waterhouse carried her father's full name.
Her father died without a will in 1794, and her husband became administrator of his estate. Her mother, by then living in Kingwood as a widow, made her own will on 1 May 1805. It left "Daughter, Elizabeth Waterhouse, 8 day clock, brass kettle and 1/3 of residue." An eight day clock was a tall clock that needed winding only once a week.
Elizabeth died on 15 May 1806, a year after her mother wrote that will and more than a year before it was proved. She is buried in the Rosemont Cemetery at Kingwood. Her stone reads: "Elizabeth Waterhouse wife of Henry Waterhouse Born June the 10th AD 1747 And departed this life May the 15th AD 1806 In the 59th year of her age." Henry was buried beside her in 1808.
Her daughter Margaret named her first child Elizabeth Green Stryker, born on 22 May 1800.
