Elizabeth Scott
Elizabeth Scott was born in England about 1625, a daughter of Thomas Scott and his wife Ann. In April 1634, when she was nine, the family sailed from Ipswich for New England. They settled first in Massachusetts and by 1637 were at Hartford.
On 6 November 1643 her father was killed at Hartford by John Ewe. The jury found it misadventure, a death caused without intent or fault, and fined Ewe ten pounds to her mother and five to the colony. Her father lived long enough to speak a will aloud before witnesses, providing for his wife, his son Thomas and his three daughters. Her brother was infirm and did not live long.
A year and a day after the killing, on 7 November 1644, her mother married Thomas Ford of Windsor. Her sister Mary married Robert Porter the same day. Her sister Sarah married John Stanley of Farmington in December 1645. Thomas Ford's daughters, among them Hephzibah, the wife of Richard Lyman, were now her stepsisters.
On 3 February 1648/9 she married John Loomis of Windsor. Their son Joseph was born at Windsor in November 1651. The next year they moved to Farmington, where her sister Sarah lived, and stayed until 1660. Then they returned to Windsor, where her husband was a deacon and a deputy to the General Court. She bore thirteen children.
Her husband died in September 1688. She died on 7 May 1696.
Two generations later the Scott and Ford households she had grown up in were joined again. Her granddaughter Lydia Loomis married Jonathan Lyman, a grandson of her stepsister Hephzibah.
