Dea. Joseph Loomis
Joseph Loomis was born at Windsor in Connecticut on 7 November 1651. He was a son of Deacon John Loomis and Elizabeth Scott. The next year his parents moved to Farmington, and they did not come back to Windsor until 1660, when he was eight.
On 28 January 1675/6 he married Hannah Marsh, a daughter of John Marsh of Hartford and Hadley. All seven of their children were born at Windsor. Twin daughters, Ann and Hannah, came on 10 January 1678/9, and Hannah later married John Birchard. A son Joseph, born in 1681/2, died young, and the next son, born in 1682, was given his name and became Capt. Joseph Loomis. Grace was born on 17 March 1684/5, Lydia on 15 April 1686, and Sarah in 1693, who married Cornelius Birge.
Like his father he served the Windsor church as a deacon. A deacon was a lay officer chosen by the congregation who managed the church's money and the communion table.
He died in 1699, in his late forties. Hannah survived him. Two of his daughters later settled at Lebanon. Grace married Capt. John Webster there in 1709 as his second wife, and Lydia married Jonathan Lyman.
