Elizabeth Sprague

Born at Duxbury on 4 July 1699, the second child of Lieut. Samuel Sprague and Ruth Alden, and married on 20 May 1720 to Isaac Chapman of Dennis, twenty five miles down the coast and across the bay. She bore him seven children and died at Dennis in 1754, and her husband married again the year after.

The Chapman genealogy of 1876 printed her as Elizabeth with a blank line where the surname goes. Her father died at Rochester in 1740 without a will, and when his land was finally divided on 10 December 1763 the deed lists the shares by heir: two sixths to Noah as eldest son, one sixth to the children of Nathaniel, one sixth to the children of Micah, one sixth to Priscilla Hammond, and one sixth to the children of Elizabeth Chapman. Five lines, and the last of them is hers, named by marriage, with her own children standing in for her because she was nine years dead.

Through her mother she descended from Mayflower passengers. Ruth Alden was a daughter of David Alden and so a granddaughter of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins.
