Elizabeth Watson
Elizabeth Watson was born on 22 January 1824 in North Carolina, the daughter of John and Elizabeth E. Watson. About 1848 she married Elijah K. Flowers. In 1850 they were living in Anson County, North Carolina, with their son John O., and their daughter Darewa Ann Eliza was born in North Carolina in March 1851.
By 1860 the family was in Itawamba County, Mississippi, with six children. The youngest, Ludy Winfield, was born there in 1859, and Nancy Jane followed in 1861. About 1868 her husband was killed in a hunting accident, and she took the children to Decatur County, Tennessee, where her parents were then living.
Her children scattered from there. Her eldest son, John C. Flowers, went back to North Carolina and married Eliza Helon Holloway in Wake County on 5 August 1873. About 1881 he brought his family to Henderson and Decatur counties, Tennessee, and worked as a carpenter. Holland Wilson Flowers married Sarah Elizabeth Elliot of Henderson County about 1881 and moved to Dunklin County, Missouri, about 1890. Her daughter Eliza had gone south again, to marry John Horn in Leake County, Mississippi, in 1872.
Her youngest child, Nancy Jane, died in Henderson County on 6 February 1879, aged seventeen. She had never married. She was buried at Dukes Cemetery under a stone that reads "Our Sister".
Elizabeth died fifteen months after her daughter, on 26 May 1880, in Henderson County, Tennessee, aged fifty six, and was buried at Dukes Cemetery near Darden. Her stone reads "Wife of E. K. Flowers" and "Our mother". Her son Ludy farmed nearby for sixty more years and was buried in the same cemetery in 1940.
Holland died at Cardwell, Missouri, on 16 October 1898, aged forty one. John C. died at Parsons, in Decatur County, in April 1920, and the Lexington Progress wrote of him: "Mr. Flowers was a good man, a Baptist and a Mason." The Masons conducted his burial at Union Church, near Chesterfield.
