Elmira Bayless was born on 5 December 1825. The memorial written for her calls her a daughter of Daniel and Jane (Jack) Bayless. Daniel Bayless and Jennie Jack were the parents of Daniel Bayless (1827 to 1918) of West Union, so if the memorial is right, Elmira was his elder sister. No record of her own time naming her parents has been found.

She married Benjamin Piatt Jr. of Tiffin Township, Adams County, Ohio. The 1900 county history says he "married Myra Bayless." Their children's death certificates call her Almyra Bayless and Myra Bayless. They had at least eight children: Martha Francis, Polly Ann, Jackson Pierce, Hannah, Belle, Betsy, Luella and Benjamin Dickey.

Her daughter Luella married John Marion Francis in 1883. Their son Carey Hall Francis married Elma Bayless in 1920, a granddaughter of Daniel Bayless of West Union.

Elmira was widowed in March 1899 and died in 1902. She is buried with Benjamin in Nixon Chapel Cemetery, Tiffin Township.
