Else Jensdatter Plade, born 1656 and dead 1722, daughter of the bailiff Jens Paulsen Plade and Kirsten Hammer, who had married in 1654. She and her brother Gregers, born 1659, were the two children of that marriage.

In January 1674, at eighteen, she married Christen Hansen Smidt, then thirty three and bailiff of Gudbrandsdalen. Their first years were spent in the valley and three or four children were born there. In 1681 her husband was made castle bailiff at Akershus and councillor of Christiania two years after that, and the later children, including Peder in 1682, were baptized in the castle chapel.

In 1687 she and her husband sat to the painter Peder Jonson. The two canvases, each about a hundred centimetres by eighty, survive, and Oslo Museum published them in 2014 as a portrait of a distinguished couple in the Christiania of the sixteen hundreds. She outlived him by sixteen years.
