Peder Christensen Smidt
Peder Christensen Smidt, born in 1682, the fifth child of Christen Hansen Smidt, castle bailiff at Akershus, and Else Jensdatter Plade. He was baptized on 4 August in the castle chapel at Akershus, which is where the children of the fortress's own officers were christened.
In 1707 he was appointed fogd, bailiff, of Idd and Marker in Østfold. There had been sixteen applicants for the post. In 1710 he bought the farm Herrebrøden in Rokke parish in Berg, and it became the bailiff's official residence, the fogdegård. His son Gregers was born there in March 1721.
By the family history he was widowed about 1730 and married again at Rygge, to Anna Marie Krefting. He died in January 1740, leaving Gregers under age, and the boy came of age before the estate settlement closed. In June 1741 his widow was recorded as Peder Smidt's widow at the registration of the deed passing Herrebrøden to another son, Friedrich.
His son's family went back to Idd. It is where Gregers's widow bought Store Holm, where his grandson Friedrich Smidt was living in 1817, and where he married Charlotte Cathrine Linde.
