Elsie Viola Vannostrand was born in Kansas in March 1892. In June 1900 she was eight and living with her mother Sarah Van Nostrand in Harvey Township, Cowley County, Kansas, with her sister Verdie, a year older, and her baby brother Orvil.

By 1910 the family had moved to Cherry County in the Nebraska Sandhills. That April Elsie, 18, was boarding at Kennedy in the household of William Mock, where her mother, Joseph Vannostrand, her brother Orville and her married sister Verda Henion also lived.

Four years later she was in Oklahoma. On 21 May 1914, in Major County, she married James Homer Wilcox, also from Kansas, and her daughter Icy Vera was born at Fairview on 23 February 1915. In January 1920 the Wilcoxes were in Major County with three children: Isa (Icy), 5, Laurence, 4, and Locie, 2. Her children's Social Security applications spell her name Vannostrand, Vannostran and Vanorostran. Nothing later has been found for her.
