Emett Welle

d. 1558
Died 1558
Children include John

Emett Welle married John Webster of Syston and Cossington in Leicestershire. Her brother William Welle was a priest, the vicar of Ashby. She bore John at least two sons, William and John, and three daughters, Alice, Ellen and Agnes.

Her husband died before 1558. On 20 August 1558 she made her will as Emott Webster of Cossington. It was the last autumn of Queen Mary's reign, when the old Catholic forms of worship had been restored. She commended her soul to "our Lord Jesus Christ, our Lady saint Mary and all the blessed company of Heaven," and asked to be buried "in the church yard at Cossington near to her husband."

She left fourpence to the mother church at Lincoln and fourpence to the altar of Cossington. She charged her house with five shillings a year "to provide dirge and mass for the souls of her husband and herself." She left three shillings and eightpence to the poor folk of Cossington and twenty pence a year for the upkeep of the church. Her linen went to her daughters Ales and Elen. Ales also had a mattress, a bolster and a coverlet. Elen had the chair, and a half share with her brother John of a mattress, a bolster, a coverlet, Emett's clothes and the small trifles in her coffer. John had two beds. Her daughter Agnes Storer had six stone of flax, Robert Storer a ewe, and her godson Lawrence Storer a ewe lamb. The residue went to her son John, whom she made executor with her brother William Welle, the vicar of Ashby. Her son William was overseer.

She was buried at Cossington on 20 March 1558/9. By then Queen Elizabeth was on the throne. The inventory of her goods came to twenty four pounds fifteen shillings and included a horse mill, a mill for grinding driven by a horse walking in a circle.
