Emily Ailene Blann
Emily Ailene Blann, called Alene and sometimes Lena, was born in Calhoun County, Arkansas, on 15 February 1872. Memorials compiled by relatives give her parents as Richard Thomas Blann (1846 to 1912) and Amanda Stafford (1848 to 1923), and her brother and sisters as James Keller, Fleta Arzelia, Mrs. Parker, and Bertha Bennie, Mrs. Bird.
In 1892, in Ouachita County, she married Will Murph, a widower with two young sons. She had at least nine children of her own over the next twenty-three years: Blann Stark, whose first name was her own maiden name, then eight daughters, Versa Clark, Eva Mae, Jimmie Neal, Lois Pearl, Louise, Mary Mattaline, Gail and Minnette Morene.
The family moved to El Dorado in about 1903. She lost Eva Mae at 13 in 1909 and her husband in April 1926. Alene Murph died at El Dorado on 9 September 1933, aged 61, and was buried beside Will in the Bethel Cemetery. When her daughter Jimmie died forty years later, the obituary still began with her parents: "the daughter of Will and Alene Blann Murph". Among the pallbearers was a Herbert Lee Blann.
