Jimmie Neal Murph
Jimmie Neal Murph was born in Ouachita County, Arkansas, on 23 June 1898. Her parents were Will Murph, a Union County man, and his second wife, Alene Blann, who was born in Calhoun County. She grew up in a large family, with two half-brothers from her father's first marriage, a brother, Blann, and at least seven sisters. When she died in 1973 six sisters were still living.
The family moved to El Dorado when she was about five, and she lived there the rest of her life, "for the past 70 years" as her obituary put it. In 1921 she married Chatwin Emmett Marrable, the youngest son of an old Union County family. Their son James Ivan was born in March 1922 and a daughter, Dorothy Carmen, in 1928.
She was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church. By 1973 she and Chatwin lived at 203 Lilac Drive in El Dorado, and her son's family was nearby on Marrable Hill.
Mrs. Jimmie Marrable died on the night of Monday 29 October 1973 in an El Dorado hospital, after a long illness. She was 75. Her obituary named her husband, her son James I. Marrable, her daughter Mrs. Dorothy Platt, "six sisters, Mrs. J. T. Amason, Mrs. Jim Prothro, Mrs. Louise Godwin, Mrs. Hollis Harris and Mrs. Perry Bolding, all of El Dorado, and Mrs. O. G. Bodin of Port Arthur, Tex.", four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her funeral was held at ten in the morning on Wednesday in the chapel of Rumph Mortuary, with the Rev. James Shaddox and the Rev. Walter Gilbreath officiating, and she was buried in the Bethel Cemetery on the Junction City Highway. The pallbearers were Morris Evans, Bunn Ivy, George Glover, Howard Evans, Clyde Byrd, Randolph Byrd and Herbert Lee Blann. The notice told friends that "the family will be at the James I. Marrable residence, 1109 Marrable Hill."
