Erhart Wallner
Erhart Wallner was born on 19 December 1903 in Bavaria, in southern Germany, the eldest child of Erhard Wallner and Babette Stumvoll. His family gives his birthplace as Viechtach, a market town in the Bavarian Forest. In America he went by John.
His father was a jeweler. In 1913 his father left for Reno, Nevada, to work with a friend in the jewelry trade, meaning to send for the family once he had saved the fare. The First World War broke out the next year and closed the way. Erhart spent his boyhood from nine to sixteen in Germany without his father. The family finally crossed in 1920 and landed at Ellis Island on 18 September.
In May 1927 Erhart married Dolores Marguerite Lehman, the eighteen-year-old daughter of a Fallon farming family from Iowa. Their marriage is given as 14 May 1927. One family account places the wedding at Fallon and another at Reno.
In April 1930 the couple were living at Fallon, in Churchill County. The census taker wrote the name as John E. Wallmer, 26, born in Germany to German parents. Dolores was 21. Their daughter Betty was two and their son William was a baby. A second daughter, Julia La Verne, was born in 1931.
The family later moved to Shasta County in northern California, where their daughter Betty settled at Redding. Erhart died on 8 July 1987 at Fall River Mills, a small town in the mountains northeast of Redding. He was 83. He is buried in Redding Memorial Park. Dolores outlived him by thirteen years.
His mother's obituary in 1969 listed him among her survivors as John Wallner of Redding.
